School Council Training


School Council Training for 2020 is scheduled to commence at the beginning of Term 2. All current available sessions will be listed on this page. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to email us at sct@synergistiq.com OR telephone us on 99466800.

Please note: There are strictly NO walk ins for this training. All participants must register including ALL participants from the host school.

Please note: students must be registered on our website by the school principal or another authorised school staff member. Principals – please log in with your staff email details and follow the prompts to sign up the student member.

THE MODULES:

Governance Training

Open to all school councillors and principals.

  • Discusses roles and responsibilities & clarifies legislative requirements
  • Helps develop skills and knowledge to support work in strategic planning, finance, policy development and review
  • Provides case studies discussion to understand common issues for school councils
  • Assists school councillors to support the principal in achieving the best possible outcomes for students

President Training

Open to presidents, principals, vice-presidents, and other councillors or executive support staff who play a support role for the president.

  • Helps participants understand what makes an effective school council
  • Discusses ways that councils can engage the school community
  • Provides guidance about the supports and information available to people in this role
  • Provides information about running meetings and representing the school

Finance Training

Available to all school councillors and is especially recommended for treasurers, presidents, principals and school councillors who are members of a finance committee. The finance training focuses on:

  • The process of developing a school budget to support the school’s strategic direction and overseeing the school’s financial performance
  • Internal controls and council’s role in monitoring and reporting on expenditure of the school budget
  • Council’s role in overseeing investing and fundraising by the school

Strategic Planning Training

Available to all school councillors and is especially relevant for schools who are undertaking a review and development of a new School Strategic Plan (SSP). The strategic planning training focuses on school council’s role in setting the broad vision and direction for the school, including:

  • Overseeing the development, implementation of, monitoring and evaluating the SSP and AIP
  • Overseeing the evaluation and diagnosis of school performance in the review process and school self-evaluation
  • Engaging the community in the strategic planning process, endorsing the SSP and Annual implementation Plans (AIP) and communicating the school’s strategic direction to the school community
  • Approving the annual report to the school community
